From 9 June to 31 August 2009, Penangites and people who live in or have visited Penang were asked to send in photographs of what they love about Penang and what they would proudly show to the world. In this inaugural Penang Postcard Competition 2009, a total of 750 entries were received, not only from Penang, but also from Perak, Selangor, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Sibu, Singapore and from our international residents, namely from Britain, Japan and America.
This competition is divided into two categories, that is, the Student and the Open categories. The photographs submited by the participants must depict the following five themes: Penang Heritage & Culture, Food, Scenes of Everyday Life, the Modern, Quirky and Humorous Side of Penang, Flora and Fauna Through this competition jointly organized by the Penang State Tourism Development & Culture Committee and KDU College, Penang, amateur and professional photographers have a platform for them to show off their talents and expertise. We are also able to get a snapshot of how Penang is perceived in 2009, what it stands for and how it would like to be promoted through the eyes of people who love Penang.
