The Malaysia Airlines cabin crew says, 'Bonjour!'
Our French language lecturers, Alan Le Bras and Bruno Decourcy, together with representatives from KDU and Malaysia Airlines, recently celebrated their Malaysia Airlines Academy students' completion of the French Language course in a small cozy graduation ceremony, followed by dinner at Ma Maison, a French restaurant located in Jalan Ampang.
The students, who comprised of Malaysia Airlines cabin crew, underwent the 14-week course in Basic French, which taught them conversational French and also on making in-flight announcements in the language.
The programme came about because the Academy recognized the importance of communication with passengers who are non-English speakers and chose KDU to conduct these language programmes for their cabin crew.

Traditional recipes re-defined
The week has been an undeniably busy one for us here at KDU. Besides the academic convocation ceremony, we also launched a book penned by our very own Chef Darren Teoh.
The book, RE-DEFINITION – Molecular Cuisine: Traditional Recipes through a Modern Kaleidoscope, pays tribute to our local cuisine and produce, and is the first book in Malaysia that applies molecular cooking techniques to our Malaysian recipes.
The usage of molecular cooking techniques also means that the book showcases a modern style of Malaysian cuisine, offers an alternative perception of typically traditional Malaysian cooking and illustrates how Malaysian produce can create avant garde cuisine dishes suitable for haute cuisine restaurants.
Celebrating the Class of 2010!
The convocation ceremony of an education institution is a milestone in the lives of the graduating students and the institution itself, and hence, it was certainly an important one achieved for KDU’s graduating Class of 2010 as our students celebrate their Academic Convocation at the One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
The ceremony, which was opened by Dato' Teo Chiang Quan, our Executive Chairman, saw a procession which included our CEO / Principal Dr. Chia Chee Fen, Vice Principal Dr. Tan Hui Leng, heads of schools, academic department heads as well as distinguished partner universities' representatives.
Over 480 graduates, comprised of students from; School of Arts & Social Sciences, School of Law, School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts, School of Engineering, School of Communication, Multimedia and Information Technology and the Centre for Pre-University Studies, received their diploma, Bachelor degree and Master degree certificates.

From KDU to Manchester
Written by Ida Lopez, Programme Leader, BA Econ Specialising in Accounting & Finance (1+2) Manchester University
KDU is proud to be associated with The University of Manchester in offering the BA Econ (Hons) Degree specialising in Accounting & Finance. This is a 1+2 arrangement, where students complete their 1st year at KDU and the remaining 2 years in Manchester . The University has a long and prestigious history, and this includes holding a remarkable track record of producing over 23 Nobel Prize laureates. Winners of two Nobel Prizes in Economics - Sir Arthur Lewis and John Hicks - held Chairs at Manchester .
In an effort to make the transition from KDU to Manchester easier, a get-together was held at Nando’s, Tropicana City Mall on 28th August 2010 to introduce the Year 1 students who will be leaving to further their Second Year study at the Manchester University (in September) to the Year 2 students who were back for their semester break.

Teo Soo Pin Scholarship recipient, Brian Yau, shares his thoughts...
Campus Life recently had a chat with Brian, who shared with us his experience in KDU, his inspiration and his future plans.
Sneak Peek: Our new Glenmarie Campus!
KDU is now moving ahead into very exciting times. We have been officially granted the ‘University College ’ status and will be known as KDU University College.
With the UC status, KDU will be offering its very own degree courses from January 2011 onwards. Our Bachelor courses offer you flexibility in choosing your subjects, as well as major(s) and minor(s), to craft the degree of your choice. However, not to worry. We will continue to offer our current pre-university, diploma and degree courses.
Our next step in moving forward is our new campus in Glenmarie set to be ready in 2014.

Driven to Heal the World
Written by: Ann Teoh
They come from similar backgrounds: being raised and bred in the city, smart and educated in KDU College, all with one goal – to earn their degrees and carve splendid careers of their dreams.
They were selected to attend a University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Malacca (from 1st – 7th August 2010), and they were very much impacted by life-sharing experiences of human trafficking, extreme poverty, abandoned and abused children.
They came away from the symposium very much touched, renewed, and driven with a personal vision: to serve society with their talents, compassion and the determination to make this a better place, and to “heal the world”, as sung by Michael Jackson.
Najwa Amira, Ooi Shar Mayn and Benjamin Koh echo that single thought, and they quoted the words of Mahatma Gandhi: Be the change that you want to see in the world.

Written by: Ann Teoh

September marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan for the Muslims, and the ushering in of the celebration of Hari Raya Puasa. Many Malaysians will be taking the opportunity of this long holiday to travel the length of the peninsula to visit friends and families. Then, on 16th September, it is another day for Malaysians to rejoice - being Malaysia Day. In KDU College, another day to look forward to is Graduation Day which falls on 25th September. With so many occasions to celebrate, it is indeed a month of joyfulness.
For many students, it has been a sigh of relief too, as they have completed the tough years of the GCE A-Levels or the SPM examinations. If you have not yet decided on your future course of studies, you may want to know more about pursuing either the Law, Business or Engineering programmes which offer you a British university degree. Start off at KDU College where People Inspire People, and we want to inspire you to achieve a wonderful career.
