“No way, it’s free of charge??” These were the exact words I uttered upon hearing about the trip to Port Dickson, and students from all pre-university intakes were generously invited to join in the fun with the lecturers.
There was a sense of anticipation in the air as jovial students crowded around the winner’s circle, and as a member of this shared excitement I could not help but felt my spirits being lifted despite having carried a back-breaking luggage. Some of our friends had brought cameras and guitars to seal the memories of this trip in either photographs or songs.
Upon reaching Avillion Hotel after a two-hour bus ride, I was not surprised to find that our group members were slowly easing up due to the serenity of the whole atmosphere - the wind was gently cajoling closely-knitted trees to life, the clouds in the sky drew apart revealing a calm ,azure canvas of sky. These elements had combined together to create the most picturesque scene. I could get used to this, I thought, while unloading the luggage.
The few days our group spent in Port Dickson blew by like the sea breeze. One moment ,we were gathered in the lobby awaiting our key cards, then we were strolling along the beach in search of sea creatures, and in the next moment, we were exchanging ghost stories with newly-made friends and roaming from room to room in search of entertainment as night fell. Guitar-strumming sessions were played live in one of the rooms while adoring fans sat amiably side by side with dreamy expressions.
At the beach, our heart rates rose when we zoomed across untamed waves acquiring saltwater face washes on a 3-person float. My heart almost burst when a close friend of mine went overboard via a back flip. No worries though, she came through unharmed. It was also interesting to observe lecturers, out of their usual work masks and demeanor, but with the same patience and guidance as they had in KDU. Well, I hope you can imagine how memorable these events were to a girl usually preoccupied with staying at home watching TV and drama reruns during the holidays.

However, all good things will eventually come to an end - I realised this as I woke up one day, to the zipping of suitcases and the rummaging of personal belongings of my roommates. I was half happy that I’d be leaving with a handful of memories to call my own when I went back, but the other half of me wished that we could have stayed longer to prolong this state of contentment. Ah, well... I would have to make do with these handful of memories. This trip has shown me what college life is supposed to be like, and I’m glad to have been a part of this KDU outing instead of being somewhere else.
