The Executive Chairman of KDU University College, Dato’ Teo Chiang Quan (pic), spent an evening with the MBA class, sharing his personal experiences in business, as well as his reflections and thoughts on Jim Collins’ bestselling book ‘Good to Great’, a book admired for its well-placed, but sometimes rather surprising, insights. To clarify his personal position on the companies under his care, Dato’ Teo offered some opening remarks:
1. Paramount Berhad, of which Dato’ Teo is the Executive Deputy Chairman, is not a great company as described by Jim Collins; and Paramount’s businesses are not exactly grounded on Collins’ principles.
2. In matters of Paramount, or any of its subsidiaries, there is no single act, event or decision that can be ascribed as a ‘breakthrough’ as described in the context of the book. Instead, he asserts that the growth of his firms is attributed to a long chain of improvements and accumulated gains from past business decisions.
3. People are not the most important asset in an organization; it’s the ‘Right People’ who are.
Then, he got the audience to reflect on the idea that “good is the enemy of great” and why some companies make the leap and others don’t. Next, he presented the schema of the ‘Black Box’; the secret of these high performing businesses.

Now KDU is a University, they need to look forward to do more scholarly research and I hope students can think about PR as a chosen academic career."

The annual Dato’ CQ Teo Debate Challenge 2011 is back!
From a modest number of 12 teams at its inception, the tournament now sees participation of over 60 teams from all over Malaysia with the last installment of it being won by SMK Sri Permata after fiercely contending with SMK King George V on the motion “This House Believes That Religious Sites Are Legitimate Targets In Times of War”.

Venue: KDU University College, Damansara Jaya Campus
Registration:10th February – 4th March 2011

Breakfast Talk - Smart marketing
Written by: Ann Teoh
Every man on the street wants to know how to get a profit of say, a minimum of 20% for an investment he has made, either in business, or taking risks in the stock markets, mutual funds, invest in gold or in hedge funding – all with an element of risk. Who wouldn’t want a high ROI (Return on Investment) with minimum risks? Perhaps one has to diversify the business portfolio to do that, or is there a strategy which we are ignorant of? How could we find out more? Perhaps, pay to attend a seminar and learn from some management guru?
Well, I was quite delighted to learn that KDU University College was arranging such a talk by a very experienced Marketing Director, Mr. Gabriel Dukes, who had been in the field of sales and marketing with big names like Scitex, Kodak, Hewlett Packard and more.
