There is a fine line between
indulgence and excessiveness when it comes to alcohol consumption. Teenagers especially, have the tendency to
drink and drive or drink over the limit. This time around, Pernod Ricard
Malaysia and KDU University College organized the “Walk the Line” event to raise
awareness on the importance of limitations on alcohol intakes.
"Walk The Line" is Pernod Ricard’s
Corporate Social Responsibility campaign to promote awareness on responsible drinking. Pernod Ricard is a
French multinational company that produces distilled beverages. The company
also owns prominent brands in the liquor industry.
Hosted
by the famous local stand-up comedian; Douglas Lim, whose sense of humour
proves to be infectious. Students of KDU University College played their part
in this campaign where it is mainly targeted to the youth. Dr. Tan Hui Leng (Acting
Vice-Chancellor of KDU University College), delivered the opening speech;
insisting sternly against the dangerously common activities of driving while
not being in a sober state as well as highlighting Pernod Ricard’s campaign
objective.
Apart from that, Mr. C.K Tan;
Pernod Ricards’s Managing Director was also present to play his part in the
campaign. He gave a talk on alcohol consumption and how youth are generally
influenced towards alcohol. He even presented fascinating facts regarding the
time taken for both male and female to fully sober up after a certain amount of
alcohol.
The event was spread to two sessions;
the first one started at 9 am while the second session began at 2pm. Throughout
the two sessions, KDU’s Damansara Jaya Campus’ Auditorium resembled a sardine
can as it was jam packed with students enjoying themselves while pledging their
support for the cause. There were many games and activities set up for the
students; such as Walk The Line where students have to get across the room
while walking on a plank carefully or risk falling into a pool of water!
After completing three out of all the activities; students will receive a stamp for each completion and they get to claim t-shirts and cool dog tags that they can customize on the spot!
Apart from that, there was also a
lucky draw, and the prizes left everybody simply awestruck. They were giving
away 5 new Ipad 3, 5 Samsung Galaxy
Note and 200 pieces of 4GB thumbdrives! Our lucky students who won the high end, latest
and most wanted gadgets during the lucky draw thanked their lucky stars as they
climbed on stage one by one, looking utterly delighted and astonished at their
luck. To top that off, the company also provided all day round free flow of
food and cordial for everyone to enjoy.
Needless to
say, the event is a major success. Kudos
to the organizer as they managed to get their message across and they certainly
did it with style!
