A day of stars and inspiration at KDU March Open Day!

It was a beautiful Saturday on 24th March 2012, where the weather seemed to be fairly breezy and calm. Parents, students, friends and relatives stepped into KDU University College (Damansara Jaya campus), attending the KDU March Open Day. So, what went down during the day?

Students who have just finished their SPM, came to discover their choices in different courses. This is the first step, to realizing their future dreams and passion. For those who aren't sure of what they want to do, a free personality reading and test also ran simultaneously. 

Career Talk and Recruitment Drive 2012

Heard of Hush Puppies and Ganad? Well, wish to have a chance to strike a career with them? The Transmarco Group of Companies (Hush Puppies) and GANAD Sdn.Bhd (Media owner-Outdoor Advertising) will be heading over to the KDU Career Talk and Recruitment Drive. The Hook Up with Carla & Erwin from The Kitchen Musical

In conjunction with our Open Day on March 24th 2012, the Hook-Up series flamed up once again. This time around, we decided to have 2 very special guest speakers from the Kitchen Musical. This would be interesting as well as entertaining! 

If you are interested in the entertainment arts industry, you should definitely be there!

Project Haven- Visit to Precious Children's Home

"We can do no great things, only small things with great love" -Mother Teresa-

It is true, that the things we do, although small but with great love, means more than anything in helping others. Helping the less fortunate does not necessarily comes in monetary form, but it can also come from within our hearts and will.

This time around, the students from Mass Communication, together with the assistance from students of I.T and Engineering, took on a project called "Project Haven". This project was a part of their CSR subject (Corporate Social Responsibility). The event took place at Precious Children's Home, located at Petaling Jaya on 15th March 2012. 

The home consists of approximately 20 kids, some were orphans, some were picked from the streets or even had parents who were drug addicts.

Dream come true for Kudzai Hazangwi!

Kudzai Hazangwi was one of the ten selected participants who got chosen for the Genting Hong Internship Programme.  You can read more about the programme HERE. We are very happy for her to have been placed at the Star Cruises Penang Office, George Town. 

She is from Zimbabwe and we are proud to have her here in KDU University College. She is a student of the  Hospitality and Tourism (Degree).

He is the postgraduate programme leader, managing 3 three MBAs and a senior lecturer in Tourism & Marketing Management in IMI University Centre in Switzerland. He has years of management experience as GM in hotels and international teaching experiences in insititutions from the US, Greece, Italy and the UK.

Public Speaking- The Personal, The Truth, The Real Thing!

Every time when we listen to a speech, we will always harbour a thought deep in us: Does he/she mean what he/she is saying? Does the speaker need to believe in what he/she is saying in order to move an audience, or is it a language game?

Taking these questions to class, lecturers Richard Chua and Sina Azinfar challenged the January 2012 class of the public speaking module to the above test. How do they weave the personal, lay out the truth, convincingly convey the real thing to audiences who harbour their own biasness?

Perhaps a safe environment is what a speaker needs, to allay fears, to pretend to be someone; theatre is that safe space to carry out the experiment. We invite you to come join these students in making the discovery together.

Making changes of the Flora & Fauna at Zoo Negara

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), now plays a vital role in today's society, be it helping those in need, helping to restore the environment, and helping the welfare society. In KDU University College, students are often exposed to these voluntary movements and are very active in CSR projects. This time around, students from the UC Degree (Bachelor in Mass Communication), assisted by a few students from the Computing and Engineering students participated in a voluntary project to make change in the well-being of flora and fauna at the National Zoo on 2nd March 2012.

Teaching & Learning Colloquium- Series 8 (Global Employability)

A lot of us would want to take the opportunity to work overseas. However, do we have what it takes? It may not be as simple or easy as what we think. We might assume of the life our friends or family who has experienced working overseas, but not when we, ourselves, being situated there and what is expected from global employability. This time around, Ms.Patricia Chua (CEO, KDU University College) and Mr.Richard Chua (Programme Leader, Creative Arts Department) attempted to fill in the shoes of Oprah by pulling off an Opray Winfrey-like show and opened up the discussions to the floor on global employability, as well as sharing tips and experiences on how to enter and excel as a global executive. The Teaching & Learning Colloquium series 8 took place at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya campus on 2nd March 2012.

HAVEN- New Home, New Hope!

It is always a good thing to help others in need. Be it the less fortunate, orphans, those from broken families, and so on so forth. Once again, KDU students are doing their part by helping those in need. The UC Degree students of Mass Communication would be running a project called "Haven", assisted by friends from IT and Engineering.

So, what more about this project and how can you help? 

There will be limited spots opened for you at the counter on 5th & 6th March (Participation fee is required). Alternatively, you can also support by purchasing chocolate muffins and cookies on both days. . To add onto the sugary fun, there will be ice cream cones on sale too. Profit from the sales will go directly to Precious Children's Home. (Coupons to redeem ice cream cones will be sold around campus starting 1^st March)

About Precious Children's Home:

This home consists of 17 children aged 4 to 17 years old. These children lived on the streets, have parents who are addicts, alcoholics, undergoing rehabilitation/prison before they came to the home. Some are orphans. The class we will be repainting their home, planting trees in their garden, cooking them a hearty lunch and donating basic necessities on that very day to help them live a normal life, like us.

So, what are you waiting for? Let's show our support towards corporate social responsibility and give back to the society. Not only will we feel good helping the less fortunate, but to see them lit a smile on their faces, it is priceless.
