Cooking up with Darren Chin!

In KDU University College, we are always proud to feature our successful alumni. This time around, we got in contact with Darren Chin. Darren has won numerous awards and achievements over the years. Taking up his dad's advice when he was in his early teens, right after the SPM examinations, he enrolled into the KDU Diploma in Professional Chef Training in 1998.
Part of the reason he chose to pursue his studies at KDU, is because of it's reputation in the name of the Hospitality industry. Studying at KDU has given him the right platform in cooking and training, as well as opportunities to operate restaurants. The great part is, after all these years, he is still in contact with some of the lecturers who are still here up to date!

Experience:
He has an amazing 10 years experience in mending and operating a restaurant called "Daves Bistro Bar and Grill", which is part of his family business. The restaurant is currently located in "1 Utama" shopping mall. As the Group Director/Head Chef, it has became a life learning experience for him. After committing a fairly large sum of his life in the restaurant, he decided he needs to revitalize himself, determined to go back to studies. Not just studies alone, but studying in one of the world's best Culinary School. You name it, Le Cordon Bleu Paris, France. He then got into it for a 9 month programme, specializing in pastry and cuisine. He is currently doing a 2 months internship in a 2 star michelin restaurant called "Lassere" in Paris. He will then further continue his internship with Chef Pierre Sang Boyer (Finalist for the TopChef France title, 2011)
His achievements in Le cordon Bleu

Road to the White House with David Yepsen

The Section 13 campus of KDU University College has long been the home of the American Degree Programme. On 16th May 2012,  a presentation by David Yepsen “Road to the White House: Candidates and Issues in 2012", started on time at 12:45pm and was both informative and interesting.
Mr. David Yepsen, (Director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University,USA) highlighted not only the issues of the upcoming American Presidential Election, but also a few interesting quirks of the American electoral system, in particular the role of the Electoral College.

Contrary to popular belief, it is the Electoral College that actually chooses the president, not the voting public. Each state has a varying number of votes in the Electoral College based on the number of seats in the House of Representatives and senators for a given state. The smallest number of votes a state can have is 3 (such as South Dakota and Montana) to giants such as California (55 votes), Texas (38 votes), New York and Florida (29 votes each).

Italian Open Day 2012

For many, Italy immediately conjures imagines of Rome and the Coliseum, of flooded Venice designed and created by Michelangelo and of course of pasta, pizza and espresso so dark and strong, that your spoon positively stands in it.
KDU University College of course, doesn’t do anything half way. On 28th of April, KDU UC hosted an Italian Open Day to celebrate another milestone in its long and distinguished History, becoming the first institution of higher education in Malaysia to offer a Bachelor of Culinary Arts in Italian Cuisine. The event took place at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya campus, Auditorium.
