Rocking Geeks Microsoft Student Partners Programme

By: Benjamin Koh Kai Ming, Student, Diploma in Internet Technology
Being an IT student carries a stigma of being labeled geeky and boring. After all, what is there apart from the computer? However, the truth of the matter will rock your world!

KDU College, in partnership with Microsoft, has a programme called Microsoft Student Partners (MSP - Worldwide Educational Programme sponsoring students in technology disciplines). The programme attempts to enhance students’ employability by offering training in skills not usually taught in academia, including knowledge in various Microsoft technologies, while keeping it fun and entertaining - “Edu-taining”!

As a new MSP ambassador, I recently went for the bootcamp. Honestly, I thought it would be a boring lecture, but to my pleasant surprise it was not. It was a fun-filled time with activities such as, paintball (with Microsoft personalities; who says Microsoft does not know how to have fun?), “mamak” sessions, plenty of walking KDU’s IT Club (Tech @ venue KDU/ Tech@KDU). The club is purposed in instilling in students an inquisitive nature, spurring them not just to study but also be aware of industry practices and development and how they can be industry savvy before they enter the competitive employment market.

The club has also initiated an event, the “Mega Launch” held on 12th and 13th of April 2010 at the KDU DJ concourse. There will be more exciting events coming your way. Check us out!
