Five students from the Murdoch University programmes jumped with joy when it was announced that they were the recipients of the Murdoch University Vice Chancellor's Commendation Academic Excellence award.
This prestigious award recognises outstanding students who have earned High Distinctions, placing them in the university's top 2% of the ordinary bachelor programme.
Chia Sue Ann, Priscilla Phang, Soo Xinghan, Wong Hui Mey Joanna and Benette Lee are still in cloud nine. Despite their excitement, they wanted to thank their lecturers who have been a source of inspiration to them.
Priscilla Phang shares, "The combination of lecturers' and coordinators' efforts contributed much to the success I have achieved to date. I consider my award a stepping stone for myself, and more importantly, an accreditation to my lecturers who worked endlessly and without a word of murmur in assisting me in my learning curve. To me, each class, each lesson and advice given is liken to drops of water and fertiliser that nurtured my growth. Therefore, needless to say, I have enjoyed immensely my tenure thus far, and am looking forward to my remaining years here." (Read more).
Chia Sue Ann said, “My lecturers have been extremely dedicated, supportive, and they come in an interesting range of personas. I am who I am today because of them. My plan for the future is to earn the international accreditation from CPA Australia as a passport to experiencing more people and places. I also have plans to gain employment in an organisation that helps me give back to society; I believe that makes life more meaningful.

My best wishes to anyone who wishes to take this course. I hope you find it something in it as valuable as I have. Do not hesitate to seek your tutors for advice; be self-motivated and always believe in yourself."
I have enjoyed studying under this Murdoch B. Commerce programme at KDU. This programme offers a great amount of flexibility. I can select from a wide range of subjects and thus broaden my scope of expertise. Also, you have the option to fly to Perth, Australia, for a semester at any time of the three-year programme, and pay only KDU fees. So you have the chance to experience life abroad at a very affordable rate."
"I'm much overwhelmed," says Benette Lee (a final semester student pursuing the Murdoch Bachelor's degree of Mass Communications). "The award was to highlight our outstanding academic achievements and I have always maintained a First Grade level of mark, having received High Distinctions even after the moderation of my assignments from the Australian unit Coordinators. The course truly did me well, for recently, I have received a job offer from a reputable international company and I have so many reasons to thank KDU College and Murdoch university for it."

Joanna Wong Hui Mey aspires to enter a vibrant and exciting industry while climbing the corporate ladder along the way. This award has given her the opportunity to move in that direction. However, she cautions "Things may get tough at times, but remind yourself that you can because you think you can. I am inspired by my family who constantly motivates me to strive to be a better person and tells me that anything is possible." Xinghan agrees as he said, "I am inspired by Dato' Sri Tony Fernandes, the CEO of Air Asia. He said, 'Believe in the unbelievable.' To me, he is the ultimate role model to inspire young minds to get out there, work hard and never give up in achieving your goals."
That's why the Murdoch B. Commerce students are made of - tough, positive, hard working, grateful and most of all, they always set a goal! And these five students have certainly strived to achieve theirs!

Well done, Jo! You deserve it! Susan
