Open Day - School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts

by: Ann Teoh
Mention the word "Open Day" and you can be sure it's an opportunity to be taken on a tour of the campus, meet the academicians and students and find out more the courses which are being offered. However, at the Open Day of the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts (SHTCA), it's an Open Day with a significant difference. Guests were invited to cups of piping hot Swiss chocolate and a spread of delectable delights: cakes, apple tarts, lemon meringue tartlets, sandwiches and other tempting little bites amidst an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness.

Truly delicious - cakes and tartlets.

Merit scholarship students, Cheo Yi Qian and Wee Shui Zhen from the B.A. in International Hotel & Tourism Management programme were at hand to welcome the guests. As Shui Zen said, "This Open Day is very highly regarded by guests who dropped in here. They have the opportunity to have a frank chat with us about how we feel studying here. I am also inspired by SHTCA's genuine effort to ensure that guests feel comfortable and welcomed. They have made it very special as you can see from the food, the decor and the team of lecturers and students who are here. My team mates and I conduct the tour showing the guests the facilities such as the mock-up room, the training restaurants and kitchens."

Her classmate, Cheo Yi Qian agreed that this event has been an eye-opener for her. "Secondary school students find SHTCA Open Day so relevant and practical as they can view all the facilities, taste the food prepared by the chef students, get to know the lecturers and get the feel of a truly warm learning environment."
