SMK Westland Students Get Creative

The School of Design of KDU College Penang Campus recently held a Design Workshop for students of SMK Westland Penang. The workshop was conducted for students who were interested in art and design. The participants were given hands-on training from lecturers during this creative workshop. They were taught to conceptualize ideas into designs and logos to be printed on T-Shirts. 


This workshop was spearheaded by Ms. Sharifah Mazwari, the Academic Department Head of the School of Design. According to Ms. Sharifah Mazwari, this workshop not only aimed at tapping into the creative talents of students but helped to instill a sense of competitiveness as well. 


The SMK Westland students took the opportunity to view KDU students’ work which are exhibited at “The Gallery” located on the same floor as the School of Design. The Gallery is opened for public viewing. Exhibits include portraits, packaging designs, sculptures, photography, illustrations, graffiti and spatial designs.






During the workshop, career counseling sessions were also held for SPM and STPM leavers. The KDU counselors were on hand to provide information on the wide array of courses available and to guide school leavers on the needs of the industries as well as the type of courses which suited each individual needs. SMK Westland school counselor, Mr. Goh thanked the lecturers and KDU college student helpers for sharing their knowledge and time to guide the students and was impressed that courses offered at KDU College are tailored to the needs and interests of the students as well as the industries. He looked forward to future collaborations with KDU College.


KDU College welcomes cooperation with secondary schools and is willing to conduct activities such as this design workshop and invites representatives of interested schools to call KDU College. KDU College also aims to bridge the gap between the industry and education institutions by offering re-skilling modules in the area of management skills, soft skills, technical skills and living skills. Collaborations of this nature serve as ideal training platform as KDU’s programmes are complemented by amenities such as state-of-the-art computer labs with up-to-date technologies to facilitate learning.
