About 100 new chef students from the recent 2010 intake, together with their lecturers,Mr Hor Kok Teng, Mr Foo Cheok Hwa and Mr Paul Lionel, had the privilege of meeting two distinguished people from the prestigious Prince Hotel & Residence, Kuala Lumpur. This visit to the hotel was part of their week-long orientation programme. It was really up close and personal with the energetic and friendly Ms Shirley Hoo, the Director of Marketing Communications and Mr Tim Quam, the General Manager.
As an alumna of KDU as well as being on the Advisory Board for the KDU School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, Ms Hoo cuts an inspiring image. She remembers her alma mater with fondness, especially her lecturers, many of whom are still teaching in KDU. She was therefore very pleased, to arrange this visit for the students.
The various heads of the departments from Marketing , Rooms Division, Human Resource and Training enlightened the students about the functions of the departments, which have to work well with each other to provide impeccable service to the hotel guests.
Mr Guam explained that each country has a different work culture which one has to take time to understand. He answered a lot of questions about working in Malaysia, saying that he is very happy working in this country. Ms Hoo answered very well every question that was thrown at her. As Mr Paul Lionel said, “She truly knows the Prince Hotel & Residence very, very well. We’re very impressed.”
The students were delighted when they were given a tour to the guest rooms, kitchens and all the other facilities, followed by a scrumptious lunch and press packs.
