The iKDU Computing and Communication Expo

The iKDU Computing and Communication Expo had a great turn out of students from many Secondary Schools, including our own students from KDU.

There were various talks, booths and activities held at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya Campus Auditorium on Wednesday, 6th April 2011.

Riyal, (our emcee and beatboxer) got the audience's attention with his opening act as he displayed his beatboxing talent and some really cool rhythms along with popular songs. You can view the video at KDU Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/kdu.universitycollege)

The first speaker to start off the event was Mr. Devid Rajah (News Editor, The Star).

He told us his experiences and stories of a News Reporter. He also told us about his UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) experience and how his crew worked night and day to capture it for the newspaper.

On the other hand, being a News Reporter also had it's dangers. He was sent to Sri Lanka to cover the aftermath of the Tsunami .

The next speaker was Hakim Albasrawy, a young and friendly lad, who took centre stage.

He is the Co-Founder of "Thisisbinding.com". When we chatted with him later, he said "It is a good thing that a lot of students are here. Hopefully my topic will eventually enlighten them on the usage of media tools to do good on social networks."

Since the crowd was pretty young, his topic was very hip and happening, catered for the audience. The crowd cheered when asked, "Do you guys know who is Rebecca Black?" She is a young and famous upcoming artist.

Lawrence Wong (Local Celebrity)

"When I was young, I was into air-rifle. I was in St. Johns, the Chess Club, Volleyball team and even became a Librarian but not the Media Line. So it was a whole different thing now compared to my childhood. Until I was 15, I did a commercial on a washing detergent. From there, it all started and I got involved in acting. I never did any formal training or went to any acting classes. I just felt my way through it." What an inspiration Lawrence!

In huge demand, Lawrence Wong made a special appearance in the Expo. Although he had a busy schedule, he still made the time to meet his fans and speak about his life.

He used to be a full time male model and currently hosting a TV Series of 8-Style (A Fashion TV Series). He has featured in numerous local TV Shows and also commercials.

Avid fans of Lawrence Wong, waiting to take a picture with him. All the attention followed him as soon as he got off the stage.

Mr. Zulkifli, holding up his iPad on stage updating his Facebook status!

Mr. Zulkifli is the General Manager of New Media, Primeworks Studios. He talks about current trends in the media, changes of media trends and opportunities of new media. He was very up to date when it came to the latest technologies and upcoming media trends.

Meet Mr. Zhien Chong. He is a Product Marketing Specialist cum Technical PR, ASUS.

His topic was on "Innovation" and how it has involved. Zhien Chong is a very well spoken and definitely an energetic speaker.

The final speaker was Mr. Gerard Lim.

Mr. Gerard Lim is the CEO and founder of skyad.net. "We spend 26% percent of our online time on social media, especially on Facebook."
