It was a bright sunny day on a Tuesday afternoon (25th October) when Supermodel, Amber Chia and Catwalk Guru, Benjamin Toong, strolled down KDU University College walkway with style. They made head turns as as they paced towards the audition hall. Contestants were busy filling in the registration form, some were nervous and some were excited.
Why are they here?
The New Face Model Search Malaysia 2011 kicked start their audition here at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya campus on 25th October 2011. The search is held in conjunction with the 7th Asia Model Festival Awards(AMFA) 2012, which will be held in Seoul, Korea. The winners will then be crowned the new faces of Malaysia at a grand finale at November 2011. Winners will win a trip to Seoul, Korea to represent Malaysia at the prestigious Asia New Face Model Search 2012 and walk the red carpet with Amber and Ben! They will be groomed and taught by industry professionals once qualified into the final round.
Students as young as 15-25 were in demand in the modelling industry and that could be a career path for them. The audition at KDU saw a group of passionate participants who not only have the courage but also the confident which makes them outstanding. Some were born a model, some were unique and some were giving a try and testing their luck. However, in the modelling world, it is not all glitz and glamour when strict requirements on individual are being tested and implemented. Not only one needs the height, but also the attitude, the poise, the weight, and the confidence. As what Amber said "It is a tough industry. It looks easy and promising, but you need to face a handful of rejections." Participants need to be an optimist and at the same time, face rejections but to also keep the positive energy going along the way.

Of course it is not easy when you are facing the judges, especially those who are already in the professional line. However, Amber and Ben were two very humble and down-to-earth individuals which also makes the audition a very comfortable one.
Some of them had the perfect height, body weight and even the looks which impressed the judges.

"Thank you KDU for organizing this with us. We have to choose someone who can eventually compete with other contestants from overseas and this is a good opportunity for young Asians. There will be a tremendous turn-up from International celebrities and artistes in the AMFA. The younger, the better." She said.
"If you never try, you will never know. I have been rejected many times before but I still did not gave up and from rejections, as you will eventually become better. My advice for those who are afraid to participate in the audition, just do it and do it fast. The age limit is 28 and when you start late, you might regret in the future. Start when you are young, until the day you make it."
"Good afternoon! It is not difficult to groom fresh models because I am very passionate about it. I personally believes that no one is born ugly and in Malaysia, there are a lot of people who are extremely shy. My advice, just go for it and we are here to train and teach you the right way to walk, talk, and dress. If you have the passion and courage to join, you will learn and understand what is wrong and right. U learn something at least and implement those learning in the future." He explained.

"We want to groom young individuals to become a supermodel. I grew up in Tawau, Sabah and has never worn high heels but always wore my flip-flops. I tried more than 20-50 times but I never did gave up. It took me 6 months to a year and I had a tough time but I still stood strong."
When asked about the outcome of the audition, Amber said, "I think we got a few good ones and a few females were pretty good. I believe after touching up, they will look excellent and much better." On the male side, Ben noted, "We saw a lot of fresh male participants and once we have done selecting, we will groom them so that they will look more professional."
"Attitude matters as well. Not only a person's height, posture and body. On another note, a model must also know how to carry his or her clothes well and make clothes look good. "
Stunning right? Benjamin demonstrating a professional catwalk. He is a man who can pull of a nine-inch heels to catwalk.

All in all, participants and fans had a great time with Amber and Ben, filled with fun and laughter. They are amazingly friendly and humorous and would keep themselves humble all the time despite their popularity. Last but not least, wishing all contestants the best of luck!
