Titian Kasih Project!

What could one ever lose to contribute their time, effort, and a little bit of help, to help others in need? Helping those in need by giving them tutorials, teaching them a little something, and organizing a workshop for them could possibly make the world a better place. On 25th February 2012, KDU members of SUKDU (Student Union KDU), Culinary school and KDU Performing Arts collaborated with TKEP (Titian Kasih English Programme) to organize a workshop for the orphans and those from broken homes. The workshop took place at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya campus.

What is the purpose of the workshop?
The purpose of the workshop, is to give these orphans a taste of the outside world, giving them exposure on life skills and entertainment. The workshop can help them build dreams and life goals, aiming a purpose in life. Sheltered in a home would not get them far, thus, necessary skills and development programmes like these will help them understand and learn more about necessary skills in life.

About Titian Kasih English Programme
Titian Kasih English Programme (TKEP) is a volunteer teaching program which aims to address the unmet educational needs of children in shelter homes around Kuala Lumpur. For a few hours every Sunday, teams go to the two Titian Kaseh Homes in Kuala Lumpur to teach English to students between the ages of 7-17. Through the various learning activities, they are able to give these children the attention they deserve. Their programs are specifically customized to cater to the different levels of each child, thus allowing them to grow with confidence and space to excel!

The kids were being taught how to dance. Dancing is also a part of exposure in the entertainment element. Having fun is vital in a child's life, so that they will be able to understand more about the outside world, about how it is, especially in today's era.

They were also being treated to a meal, a time where each of them can mingle around and communicate with each other.
They also had the chance to get their hands on cooking, on the try-out of making CanapĂ©! This is a chance for them to understand and learn more about Culinary Arts.
Having fun and goofing around, a feel-good time!

"This workshop aims to give the kids confidence and skills to prepare them for the outside world. So when time arrives, they can be ever-ready. We are trying to make them grasp practical and useful skills, allowing them to grow with confidence in order for them to excel in life," he said.

All involving members did a great job, in fulfilling their needs. Being an orphan doesn't make them less of another, all they need is support and necessary skills to push them further, making them dream, and turning those dreams into reality. Exposure is a very important element in their lives and that is why, the members from SUKDU, Culinary school, and the Performing Arts members collaborated with Titian Kasih to organize this workshop, specially for Titian Kasih.
