Project Haven- Visit to Precious Children's Home

"We can do no great things, only small things with great love" -Mother Teresa-

It is true, that the things we do, although small but with great love, means more than anything in helping others. Helping the less fortunate does not necessarily comes in monetary form, but it can also come from within our hearts and will.
This time around, the students from Mass Communication, together with the assistance from students of I.T and Engineering, took on a project called "Project Haven". This project was a part of their CSR subject (Corporate Social Responsibility). The event took place at Precious Children's Home, located at Petaling Jaya on 15th March 2012.
The home consists of approximately 20 kids, some were orphans, some were picked from the streets or even had parents who were drug addicts.

On the 5th & 6th of March, the students were selling ice-cream at KDU Damansara Jaya campus for RM 1. The proceedings also went to the home. They also bought toiletries, stationeries, daily supplies, food and more.

One of the children's wish, was to plant a tree in the garden. Specifically, they wanted a Christmas tree. So, the wish was granted!

Students together with the kids had a great time painting the walls, to a whole new shade of yellow!

The students even brought a variety of boardgames over so that the kids can spend their time playing these boardgames, that will eventually lead to mental development, as well as having fun.
It's cooking time! These students made spaghetti, burger patties, ham, tuna sandwiches, cookies, potato salad and jelly! Yummy!

Lecturer, Ms.Farah Izyana with student head of the project, Rusydan

Words from Rusydan:
" We hope to build them a better home. That would be our main aim of this project. Instead of giving them money, we decided to go hands-on with the work. This is more meaningful because we can interact with these kids. We prefer doing all activities together with the kids, thus, making this event more memorable. We are also looking for a special connection and bonding with them. This is not just a part of the course work, not just for the marks, but it is because we truly want to help them from the bottom of our hearts. They should deserve our attention the most. " Well said Rusydan!

This project aims to create a better environment for the kids, as well as to expose them to fun games and activities, thus, developing their creative minds. Students had fun spending time with these kids. The smile displayed on their faces, priceless. Overall, the students did a great job. Kudos!
