A day with Chef Bruce Lim at KDU University College!

Dato' Teo Chiang Quan (Executive Chairman, KDU University College) with Chef Bruce Lim.
“Cooking is at once child's play and adult joy. And cooking done with care is an act of love.”

Cooking does not just derive from the act of it, the method or skills. However, it also comes from interest, passion and most of it, inspiration.
This time around, the KDU School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) marks its 25th year Anniversary. In conjunction with it, the school invited Chef Bruce Lim to commemorate the celebration. For those who are not familiar with Chef Bruce Lim, he is a Filipino-Chinese celebrity chef, who stars in the Asian Food Channel (AFC), Tablescapes. His career includes experiences in some of the best French kitchens in the world and studied under the tutelage of world-renowned chef, Gordon Ramsay. He stepped foot at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya campus on 13th April 2012.

His own recipe book,"Inside a chef's life" was also sold at RM 40 on the event day itself.
Fans and supporters queued up, anticipating to take a snapshot with him, as well as his signature. He was a very down to earth man, cool, and laid back. He even chatted with some of his fans while signing his autograph.
Chef Bruce Lim, alongside Chef Alis, put on a culinary demo, showcasing some of the Filipino delicacies. To name a few, Calamansi Tuyo Spaghetti, Fried Tofu Squares with Green Beans, as well as the Banana Mango Jubilee.

Some lucky participants also had the chance to have a taste of Chef Bruce Lim's cooking. Surely an appetizing rush to their taste-buds!
If there is a one word to describe Chef Bruce Lim, crazy would be it. KDU intern, Charlene Wong, popped the question to him and the reason behind it was, he likes taking chances and challenges. He goes against rules and do whatever he feels like it, and do what he wants to do. His favourite food has to be the "Fish head curry" from Penang. Aside from that, he also enjoys the "Fried Kuey Teow, Assam Laksa and Fried Oyster".
His grandmother would be his main inspiration to being a chef, and being where he is today. In the near future, he would also wants to inspire his 12-year old son to appreciate food as well as enjoying it, at the same time, respecting the art of it.

Ms.Patricia Chua (Special Projects Director, KDU University College), passing a gift of appreciation to Chef Bruce.
“Never stop learning because the moment when you stop learning and you said you’ve learnt enough, is the moment you fail," he said.

In KDU, we believe in people inspiring people. Inspiration comes a long way, and it can take you to places you have never imagined. We do hope by this event, he will inspire some of our very young talented chefs-to-be, here in KDU University College. This event was organized by the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA).
The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) is one of the largest department under KDU University College. Our graduates are regarded as some of the best by industry leaders.
