An
ordinary film studies class became an awestruck event for the students of KDU
who managed to meet Jin, Reuben and Dennis from JinnyBoyTV. The trio were special
guests for the Introduction to Film Studies lecture of the Diploma in Mass
Communication program. The trio presented their recipe of success on YouTube Channel,
where their videos have garnered over a hundred thousand views, and over a million
views for their video entitled “My Generasi.”
The
event took place at KDU University College’s Damansara Jaya campus on 17th May
2012. The whole theatre was packed by 2pm, with excited participants. Without
further ado, Jin and Reuben introduced JinnyBoyTV, starting with their very
first video called “Ah Wing.” At the time, they had planned just that particular
video, and felt it was enough. “Ah Wing,” would go on to become a nationwide
hit. Astounded as they were, they started getting comments and calls, all
asking the same thing: What will their next video be?
David
Choi in fact recommended Jin to come up with his own video back then when he
didn’t know Reuben yet. As they eventually got to know each another, they become
the best of buddies and started off JinnyBoyTV. “Ah Wing” was produced by a
passionate but small crew, lacking “professional equipment” and on a shoestring
budget. However, the video was well received and remains popular to this day.
Not bad for a video produced by a crew of two, improvised boom microphones and
a budget of only RM90.00.
Charlene was all smiles when she managed to take a picture with Dennis!
Along
the way, Jin and Reuben showed many of their latest videos, there was one where
Dennis and K-Pop, Jay Park were dancing together which brought about a pin drop
silence as the heart of practically every girl in the lecture theatre melted on
that one scene. Jin then told that their latest video, entitled “The Class
Clown” for teacher’s day was one a more personal video that touched his heart
deeply. The video was shot in the school where his mother once taught, where he
also slept in the canteen waiting for her at the age of five. Dennis then took
centre stage to show his dance moves live. It was live performance watching him
doing the exact same Nyan Cat dance from the video “Abuden”.
Thanks
to the School of Computing, Communication and Media Studies for inviting them
for the very first time and it shall not be the last. It was wonderful to have
JinnyBoyTv here at KDU University College to share their life experiences, the
lessons they have learned and to answer the questions posed by students. They
also shared great advice drawn from their experience in movie making.
