Save the Turtles!

On the 14th of June 2013, the Murdoch University Commerce Society planned an island getaway to Perhentian Island. The island is very famous for its beautiful beaches and coral reefs. However, one of the main attractions will be for the famous green turtles laying eggs on the beaches.
The students would like to give back to Mother Nature as well as to enjoy a holiday to distress  themselves from the hectic life. There were 25 excited students, ready to save some turtles!
Students ready to depart!
The journey was an eye opener to some of the international students as well as to the local. The sea water was in an amazing aqua blue colour. It was so clear that all of them could see the beautiful corals without even having to snorkel. It was definitely a paradise at sight!

On the very next day, the students proceeded to Bubble Beach after breakfast. The volunteers and the head of the project were very friendly and welcoming during the visit to the conservation site.
They had the chance to visit the area of rescued turtles. They were very excited and lucky to even witness some hatching! The turtles were in a safe environment, allowing the eggs to hatch.

Once the students are told about facts and information on turtles, they then get down to the real job in helping those turtles. Head of project, Ms.Hwang Peisee mentioned that most of the equipments used for the hatchings are through private donations. Without hesitating, the students donated some amount to ensure that more turtles could be saved. Once the turtle eggs are hatched, donors will be notified. Cool!
At the same day, the students had a great buffet dinner and played a turtle quiz to find out how attentive everyone was in the morning. The committee presented the winning groups with baby turtle plush toys.
Most of the participants were reluctant to leave such a beautiful island. The students and lecturers had a great bonding time together, saving the turtles, educate themselves on turtles, and mostly, having the time of their lives!
