April saw a devastating catastrophe striking Nepal in its heart. Many lost their homes and were made homeless with entire villages flattened in the recent massive earthquakes across many districts in Nepal. It was the worst natural disaster to ever strike Nepal since the 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake.
Determined to stand together with the victims, KDU University College launched the #kdu4Nepal initiative, which was organised by the KDU Student & Alumni Centre.
Through this initiative, KDU aimed to raise RM30,000 while working hand in hand together with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, for the Nepal earthquake victims to begin the healing and rebuilding process. As part of the month-long initiative, #kdu4Nepal t-shirts are sold with the proceeds channeled to the victims of Nepal earthquake.
Not only that, the #kdu4nepal initiative was also incorporated into KDU’s Freshies Night on 28 May, with proceeds from tickets sold going towards the donation.
The event was kicked started with a welcome speech by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of KDU UC, Associate Professor Dr. Hon Wei Min, followed by a speech by the Second Secretary from the Embassy of Nepal, Mr Arun Mahat.
Keeping the event in line with its objective, a music video presentation that was specially written, directed, produced by a group of KDU students to show their moral support upon this tragedy, was broadcasted to the audience as a gesture of goodwill, with a special message going out to the victims at Nepal – ‘You are the heroes of our heart’.

Compassion and emotions swerved in the air throughout the event, which concluded with a postcard presentation to the Embassy of Nepal. The postcards were handwritten messages from everyone at KDU who stood united under the goal of raising RM30,000, with the belief that one move can make all the difference in the world for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.
