It is like “killing two birds with one stone” for a graduating trio of Bachelor of Game Development (Hons) from KDU University College as they are just one day away from celebrating their official graduation ceremony on the 22 October 2016 when they received the exciting news of them winning the MSC- APICTA 2016’s Best of Tertiary Student Category – Creative Multimedia prize for their First Person Co-Op Shooter Game called Combat Infiltration Droid (C.I.D). The three graduating students namely, Roger Ng Khang Shen, Haw Jing Hann, and Wahid Dawod Mohammed Hamid, have managed to achieve such an astounding award with their remarkable effort in designing such an interactive game with sophisticated design to win the hearts of the juries in their recent competition.

The MSC- APICTA Awards are initiated by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) together with The National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) and have received the patronage of the Prime Minister since its inception in 1999. With aims to recognise outstanding achievements of those who have contributed to the development of Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia for the benefit of the country, it acknowledges creativity, innovation, and excellence in Malaysian ICT.
The competition extended to individuals, students, entrepreneurs, SMEs and organisations who are involved in creative media from all across Malaysia.

Ng, Haw, and Wahid teamed up and named themselves ‘C3’ during their final year project, as they started to develop the game together since a few months back, at KDU’s School of Computing and Creative Media (SCCM). Strongly encouraged by their lecturers, the trio handed the application for this contest in September.

In its working mechanism, Combat Infiltration Droid (C.I.D) was developed using the Unreal Engine 4 by the trio. It requires players to be tactical whilst exploring famous local places around Kuala Lumpur and sampling visual bits of Malaysian culture. At the contest, it was presented by Ng to the judges.

Their recent achievement have not only proven their capability in designing the best game, but more importantly has made KDU proud by proving to the world that KDU provides one of the best real world academic trainings for the students.
