First Class Honours Students Did KDU's Engineering Department Proud!

With the upcoming convocation next month, our Engineering Department have a lot to shout about as eight of its students attained First Class Honours in the Northumbria University engineering degree programmes.

Douglas Tong, our Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) programme, had this to say:

Northumbria University (NU) has a rigorous Engineering programme, with strict monitoring to the highest professional standards of UK’s Institution of Engineering and Technology. This same standard and rigour is applied to KDU College by Northumbria University’s Engineering Dept and that includes thrice yearly visits from NU Engineering staff plus an annual visit by NU’s own external examiner of their Engineering programme.

It is noteworthy that these students achieved their 1st Class Honours not just by purely focusing on academics alone, but they were also actively participating in all aspects of college life which is part of their KDU experience. They have set a good example for their juniors to follow in their footsteps.

As we say in KDU, People Inspire People. Above all, their achievements have not only inspired the current and future Engineering students at KDU College, but also the staff as well, just as much as the dedication of the staff have inspired these students. My heartiest Congratulations to all! Well done!

A Splashing Good Time!

One fine Saturday morning, a bunch of our students, together with our Student Services Executive Nicole Noh, made their way to Desa Waterpark where the Unicol Splash Challenge was awaiting them.

The inter-college challenge consisted of 10 games and challenges altogether, and whaddya know, we managed to snag the third place overall!

The 2010 Minggu Kebudayaan Melayu Takes On a Melting Pot Concept!

Minggu Kebudayaan Melayu is back for the 7th year running!

With a theme that focused on our multicultural society, “Citra Warna: Kesatuan Dalam Kepelbagaian”, our Malay Cultural Society (MCS) departed from its yester years’ tradition of immersing the Minggu Kebudayaan Melayu with the culture and tradition of all things Malay, and sought to embrace the traditions of Malaysia’s three main races, Malay, Indian and Chinese, and portray the races’ values in every aspect of the event.

As a week-long melting pot affair, the MKM was a fusion of our country’s race, ethnicity, culture and tradition. Keeping true to its slogan ‘Kesatuan Dalam Kepelbagaian’, which means unity in diversity, the underlying message of the 2010 MKM was clear; multiracialism is our asset and exclusivity as Malaysians.

The week-long event was kicked off on the 2nd August 2010 and the launch was graced by Datin Paduka Marina Tun Mahathir, KDU College Principal & CEO Dr Chia Chee Fen, Vice Principal Dr. Tan Hui Leng, Patron of MCS Datin Lily Zaiton, Teacher Advisor of MCS Mr. Oo Cheng Keat, President of MCS Yugenderan a/l Balamohan, as well as teachers and students from various secondary schools.

Shaking Up a Storm

Amanda - World Class bartender

She is the first Malaysian girl and the only other lady at the Diageo Reserve World Class Finals 2010 held in Athens, a year-long global challenge which saw 9,000 bartenders from around the globe, shook, stirred and poured their way through the national heats. Only the top 24 of the most talented and inspirational bartenders remained to go head to head over four days of six individual challenges. As one of the finalists in a world-class competition that is dominated by men, Amanda Wan Mun Yi certainly sprang a surprise when she upstaged many at the national heats to represent Malaysia. She may not have been selected to enter a beauty pageant despite her winning smile, charm and versatility, but she has certainly turned many heads when she wowed the judges with one of her unique presentations in the Ritual and Theatre of Drinks Challenge.
