Have you ever flipped through magazines and wished your pictures looked as good? At the recent ‘Shutterbug’ workshop, 30 students learned all about basic photography, studio lighting and Photoshop 101. The workshop was held at our photography studio, Shutter, and our Mac Lab, Pixel.
Lecturers Hardip Singh, Valen Foong and Sua Yen Nee guided the participants through the workshop which was broken down into three sessions.
The session started with Hardip explaining the functions of the studio lights and their placements, how to best position it to get the good shots and such.
Valen then took over by teaching the participants how to use the camera and what are the different functions for. The students were then paired up, and it was snap time! They took turns to be photographers and models, and posed to their heart’s content.
Once the photography session was wrapped up, the participants moved on to our Mac Lab, Pixel, where the session continued with fundamental digital photography editing skills using Adobe Photoshop CS5 conducted by Yen Nee.
The students were firstly taught on resizing and cropping images to get proper resolution for files sharing on the web or other media.
Next, the students were taught on removing unwanted spots on faces, smoothing the surface of the face, adjusting the levels and brightness of the image using relevant tools and filters.
Lastly, the students were taught on adjusting the overall mode of the photo, and saving the image with appropriate format.
With the knowledge garnered, it’s ‘Hello, Beautiful Photos!’ and ‘Goodbye, Ugly Shots!’
