Once again, the Business lecturers of KDU took students on a study visit as they believed studying effectively sometimes, involves learning from outside the classroom. Students then can experience and understand the real world, relating back to their field of studies. This time around, the Microeconomics students had the chance to visit the Central Bank and also the "Sasana Kijang Museum and the Art Gallery". The visit took place at the Central Bank, Kuala Lumpur on 21st October 2011, lead by their lecturers; Ms. Tan Consilz and Mr. Ng Chin Hooi.
Encik Muhammad Nizam briefing the students on the roles of the Central Bank in Malaysia, the elements of the Museum and Galleries, the evolution of money in Malaysia and finally, an introduction the master pieces situated in the Art Gallery.
The students got to understand the roles of the Central Bank of Malaysia thus, increasing their interest in Economics. Of particular interest was the Numismatics Gallery. The students were briefed on the history and evolution of money. They even had a glimpse of the Central Bank's vast collection of coins, bank notes, tin ingots and currencies that were made and printed in the history of the country.
The Q&A session was lively. No doubt, the biggest question on the students’ minds after the trip would be “when can I start making my own money?”
It has always been a great effort made by the Business Department to organize such events and study trips to generate students' interest. Learning and gaining knowledge can vary from classroom tutorials, to road trips and to study trips. This would also create a more fun learning experience where students can remember and implement their learnings in future assignments and exams. Study visits can also help them to experience the real-world industry and how the system works internally.
