Making Entertainment Happen: Producing in the Entertainment Industries

Associate Professor Christy Collis

14th Sept 2013, KDU UC Damansara Jaya Campus - Associate Professor Christy Collis from Queensland University of Technology is known and celebrated for both her innovate teaching, teaching leadership and research in the fields of the Entertainment Industry and Creative Industry. Suffice to say that one of the most important jobs in the global entertainment industry worth trillions of dollars is that of the Producer.

However, the question that always arises: “What does a Producer actually do?” The workshop organized by KDU University College’s Global Career Placement Services (GCPS) Unit was led by Dr. Christy Collis to answer exactly this question.

Though only an hour long, the workshop answers not only the question of “What does a Producer actually do?” but it also answered several other questions including what are the key skills a Producer requires and perhaps most importantly and of value to the students: What they need to know and be able to do to become an entertainment industry leader.

Students who attended the talk
Over two dozen students attended the workshop and found it to be an interesting eye opening experience in to the role of the Producer within the Entertainment Industry. “There is no doubt that amongst the students there are a number of talented future Producers,” remarked Ms. Yap Poh Mei, “This is why we organize these kinds of workshops and talks: To help our students find out what and where they want their career to be.”
