Chap Goh Mei Dedication Booth

Student dressed up in traditional Cheong Sam for the event.

Student & Alumni Centre of KDU University College has cheered up the campus with helium balloons and love messages on both Damansara Jaya campus and Section 13 Campus in conjunction with Chap Goh Mei. Chap Goh Mei is also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day. This is because a long time ago, Chap Goh Mei was the only day that young maidens were allowed to dress up and stroll on the street, albeit having to be accompanied by fierce chaperones. Young men would then go out, hoping to catch a sight of the rarely seen maidens. Young women also went to temples to pray, hoping for the heavens to send them a suitable match. Matchmakers took the opportunity to strike up marriages between eligible individuals.

This year, Chap Goh Mei coincides with Valentine’s Day which falls on 14th February that only happens once in 19 years. SAC wanted to take this opportunity to educate students on the tradition of this festival as well as creating fun and joy for the students.

Students were having fun in the Section 13 campus.

The booth was selling a lovable set of dedication gift consist of helium balloon, Polaroid picture, fortune cookies and lastly a written message on the mandarin orange.

Pictures and fortune cookies were given out during the lovely event.

This festival is to celebrate and cultivate positive relationships between people, families, nature and the higher beings that were believed to be responsible for bringing or returning the light each year. Therefore, students and staff were encouraged to give this special gift to their loved one and surprise them romantically.

A group picture was taken during the event.
