Knowing one’s strengths on various subjects and gaining insight in areas that suit them in the world of business, will help business students prepare well for their future career upon graduation. This was at the forefront of the partnership established by KDU University College’s School of Business and Bloomberg Institute, the education division of Bloomberg LP, when the two institutes introduced the Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) to KDU students, which will assist students.

Being a free assessment itself, the Bloomberg Aptitude Test is available online at 3,500 universities and Bloomberg offices worldwide. In fact, KDU is only one of the eight higher learning institutions in Malaysia, which provides the BAT. The 2-hour long test, comes with 100 multiple-choice questions, comprising 8 different subject areas, which measures candidates’ aptitude in various aspects of finance, business as well as career skills relevant to any industry.

In order to further promote the value of and boost the participation in BAT, KDU together with its students who were appointed as Bloomberg Campus Ambassadors, organised The Aptitude Challenge 2015, at its flagship campus in Utropolis, Glenmarie, recently.

“The BAT must be taken as a prerequisite before signing up for the challenge,” stated Mathilda Lai Wen Hung, a Bloomberg Campus Ambassador in KDU who is in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) programme here. Mathilda worked with her co-organiser, Mong Sorik Rath, who graduated from the same programme. As campus ambassadors, their task included developing marketing strategies and liaising with stakeholders on campus to promote the Bloomberg Aptitude Test.

There were 7 teams of 3, from universities partnering with Bloomberg participating in The Aptitude Challenge. Besides KDU University College, the teams were mainly from Taylor’s University and Sunway University. Eliminating-rule was from 7 teams to top 5 and top 3.

Speaking on behalf of the School of Business, head of school Dr. Ng Mei Leng, mentioned, “By taking the BAT, we hope that students will be able to discover the roles that suit them best. Moreover, they are also able to leverage their performance relative to other students from different universities. Besides that, participants are able to enhance their communication and social skills throughout the process.”
