Explore.Dream.Discover- KDU Open Day 2011

KDU University College recently organized a special Open Day, focusing on KDU's flow-through programmes. Besides that, students and participants also had the chance to speak to programme counsellors and lecturers as well as entertained themselves with some visual games, entertainment, and a whole lot more at the discovery stations. The event took place at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya campus on 12th October 2011. For now, let the pictures do more of the talking on what happened on the event day itself!

Students demonstrating on "Mixology". Mixology also defines the study of preparing mixed drinks like cocktails and mocktails. To note that off, one of our Alumni made KDU proud by being the first Malaysian girl at the Diageo Reserve World Class Finals 2010, held in Athens which saw 9,000 bartenders from around the globe and she was one of the finalist. She is none other than Amanda Wan (a former International Hotel & Tourism Management graduate).

An expert, Mr.Sebastian Le Francois (Sommelier & Wine Consultant) of Le Gourmet & Fitou Restaurant, also KDU's part time lecturer teaching beverage studies, demonstrated on the art of "Oenology". Sounds complicating? Oenology also means the study of wines like wine-making, vine-growing, grape-harvesting and a whole lot more to it. Everything and anything to do with wines.

Slam-dunked at KDU College!

It was an intense Saturday for 16 teams from across ten Klang Valley schools as they battled it out in their quest of vying for the title and bragging rights of being the inaugural KDU Basketball Invitation Cup champion.

The event, which was held last Saturday at the college’s Damansara Jaya campus auditorium, was in conjunction with the college’s Open Day weekend where a number of other activities, talks and workshops were also held.

KDU College’s CEO & Principal, Dr Chia Chee Fen, was present to launch the Basketball Invitation Cup and in her opening speech, applauded a healthy lifestyle, saying, “One should strive to lead a healthy lifestyle, and KDU believes that one should excel not only academically, but also in extra curricular activities and games, as it encourages a healthy mind.”

After presenting tokens of appreciation to the secondary school teachers in attendance, Dr Chia was game enough to start off with the first match.

BE A RADIO DJ FOR A DAY

Reported by: Valerie Ooi, Programme Counsellor

If they have always admired their favourite radio deejays and have dreamt to be another Hunny Madu, well, students from SMJK Tsung Wah certainly had such a chance at KDU's Radio Broadcasting room. Writing scripts under the guidance of Ms Maha (lecturer), the top 3 winners of scriptwriting for Valentine's Day, Father's Day, and Earth Day, had the chance to be a RADIO DJ FOR THE DAY. The prize? They had their recording done by Mr Hilmyzam and a copy of the cd was given to the school.

The other group of 25 students had a roaring time with robotics at their session FUN WITH ROBOTS together with some KDU engineering students and their lecturer, Mr. Siva.

Impressed with the Moot Court, they said it was awe-inspiring. If they had seen a mock court in session, they would have been even more inspired by the law students' excellent oratorical skills. However, as time was running short, they were given a short presentation of the KDU College courses and celebrated Teacher's Day with a cake and pastries, with compliments from the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts.

Open Day @ KDU College, Penang

The Open Day at KDU College, Penang on 14 and 15 March 2009 was rather unusual albeit a happening one. Traditionally, students who came to enquire about the academic programmes would meet our experienced counsellors and academic staff to chart their study routes. This time around, there was as array of activities that took place besides academic counselling.

KDU College, Penang invited both profit and non profit organisations to join the Open Day fun. Pleo from Pensonic, BP Healthcare Group, England Optical Group were present during the Open Day. Besides that, non-governmental organisations like the Persatuan Kebajikan HOPE worldwide and the Persatuan Pembangunan Wanita Melayu Pulau Pinang were also present to promote their cause.

KDU College, Penang’s two-day Open Day was flooded with SPM and STPM leavers, numbered more than 500 walk-ins. All the lecturers and education counsellors were kept busy counselling back to back. Though it was a weekend, the college came alive thanks to the scores of students and parents. Some even stopped to take their blood pressure at a booth manned by nursing students from the School of Nursing and Allied Health at KDU College, Penang
