A little session with the top 2% students who won the Murdoch University Award!

We are proud to announce that two KDU University College students have won the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Commendation Award for Academic Excellence from Murdoch University, Australia. Both of the girls pursued their Bachelor of Commerce, major in Accounting and minor in Business Law. This time around, we managed to catch them and have a little chit-chat session with them. Let's get up close and personal with Grace Goh and Roxzanne Rakhee!

Grace Goh
"Do your best, and God will do the rest!"

How did she managed to achieve such results?
I would always try to do my best, and be true to myself. I would study every week after a lecture. In that way, it would be easier as I don't have to cramp all notes in my head last minute. Just remember to do it for yourself and your parents. Tips: Progressive studying!

Source of inspiration:
My parents, because they have supported me all the way. They are very supportive in things that I'm doing but also wants me to work at the same time.

What are her future plans?
I plan to venture into the social work/Corporate Social Responsibility. I would like to help the poor and orphanages. This would also be on voluntary basis. I would do that off and on. However, currently, I plan to work for a few years in an accounting firm and gain experience. High Pay is not a priority for me because helping others are. It is the satisfaction of helping those in need. I have a passion to help the society especially in countries where poverty would be the main issue. I also would want to visit to countries where the people have no proper education and would like to make a change in that.

Past experiences/achievements:
I have volunteered myself to visit orphanage homes in Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines and even here in Malaysia. There is also this interesting programme where this "Doulos" ship sails to different part of the countries to help those in need. I was in it as well. The ship is like a voluntary ship where they have a mission to help, educate and feed those in poor countries. It is also one of the largest floating boat fair which have visited Taiwan, Hong Kong, Cambodia and others. However, we also pay to be on the ship as this is voluntary basis and the fund comes from us volunteers.

Interest:
I like food and love to read.

Why did she chose to study Accounting?
The reason is because this programme is versatile and we can venture into different fields in the future.

How do you find the lecturers in KDU?
The lecturers here are definitely very supportive. They taught us in ways where we can adapt to the education system in Murdoch, Australia, and that helped us a lot. In the end, most of them became our friends.
Roxzanne Rakhee
"God will help those who help themselves. Do your part."

How did she managed to achieve such results?
I would always stress in studying hard. I always would push myself to be better. Although I admit I can be a last minute person, I work better under pressure. One thing that I constantly remind myself is to pay full attention and focus during lectures in class. This will help a lot because it will somehow prepares us for our exam. Tips: To study hard and be reminded of your family's sacrifices.

Source of inspiration:
My family, as they supported me all the way. However, my dad would be my main inspiration and motivation because he worked hard to pay for my studies, therefore, this would be something I would give back.

What are her future plans?
I am planning to do my CPA professional certificate because I always dream to work in big accounting firms. I am currently doing my intern-ship in a small audit firm. In the near future, I would want to achieve in holding a high position in a firm. Dream big!

Past experiences/achievements:
During my Diploma studies in Accountancy, I was the Best Overall Student in year 2009.

Interest:
I like playing badminton during my free time.

Why did she chose to study Accounting?
Money of course! (Giggles). Money would be the main reason because we can certainly earn in this field. Also because, I like numbers.

How do you find the lecturers in KDU?
The lecturers at KDU are very close-knit with their students and they will never give up on us. They are very approachable and friendly, thus it is easier for us to ask more questions.

Overall, we are very proud with their achievements. They  have been great students, with a positive attitude and a good example to all students out there!
